Racial Segregation in America

Last night I watched Spike Lee's movie Miracle at St. Anna. It's a little hard to follow at times, but well worth the effort. It's based on actual events is a truly remarkable film. Every one of those Buffalo Soldiers was a hero in his own right. It makes me sick to think that any American could sacrifice so much and come home to so little. Those men were fighting for American freedoms, yet came home to deep prejudice, bigotry and racial segretation in America.

I'm also reading a book called Alabama's Redemption, which almost feels like an extension of the story. It's a ficticious novel by Hale Meserow, but it provides an unflinching look at what one Black soldier returned home to after WWII. The character of Alabama reminds me a lot of Train in the movie.

I highly recommend both the movie and the book
