The First Day
Mar 06Sunday
Today I started a new venture. It’s called “Do as You Purpose.”
Setting goals for myself every day and achieving them is like making promises to myself and keeping them. Doing as you purpose builds self esteem, and, crazy as it sounds, it brings joy and peace. It’s all about being intentional and mindful in everyday activities. I know it works, because I’ve done it before. But I fell off the wagon, and today’s my first day back.
Sucks that I can’t use my real name, but I’m going deep here. This is not stuff I want to share with job interviewers.
Promises
- Empty the dishwasher
- Go through the coupons in the newspaper and make a grocery list
- Finish the manicure I started yesterday
- Shower
- Eat
- Take meds
- Research insurance benefits to see if I can get new glasses
- Look online so see if there’s a cheaper place to buy vacuum cleaner bags than the Oreck store.
- Deal with the food in the fridge, so it doesn’t spoil
- Go to bed early, so I can drive DH to work in the morning and have the car. We share a car, so any day I want it I have to awaken early enough to drive.
The Doing Part
- I ate healthy foods all day, without even a single craving for junk food.
- Learned that my poopy insurance won’t pay for glasses until December.
- Found a great price on vacuum cleaner bags and bought some online. They cost $6.99, as opposed to the $30 I paid last time at the Oreck store. Also purchased an extension wand for the canister vac, as mine was badly cracked. No more bending over and use it! That’s been a thorn in my side for more than 2 years, but with 10 minutes worth of research and the swipe of a credit card, problem solved. Smile.
- DH & I went to Walmart and shopped for the week.
- I became a whirlwind in the kitchen: made a ham and potato casserole (DD’s favorite), a big chef salad and a big chicken pot pie. DH also baked a bunch of pork chops. That pretty much takes care of our cooking needs for the rest of the week. Just heat and eat. No thinking, planning or preparing. Smile.
- Showered, took meds, made grocery list and finished my manicure.
- Packed gym bag
- Went to bed at 8:30, though it took until after 10 to fall asleep. Changing a sleeping routine is always tough at first.
Overall
It was a 5-star day. I did everything I promised myself I would do and it felt good.
